How to get there . . . What they say about Mountain Cattle Drives
** What they say about Mountain Cattle Drives ** From: Channel 7, Australia "The Great Outdoors". Program 187 - 22/04/97 STORY: Ernie joined the first two days of an 8 day cattle drive to get a taste of the droving life. The cattle drive starts at the Guy Galeen property near Scone and rides up into the Barrington Ranges. You don't have to be an expert rider either, with everyone from novices to experienced riders welcome. On these rides you don't drive the cattle every day, as the owner and manager of the rides, Jillian Sullivan, likes to take riders high into the mountains to appreciate the breathtaking views. Each rider is also taught how to harness and drive the draughthorse, Barcoo, who pulls the chuckwagon that accompanies the horses. Each night, everyone returns to the base camp at 0madale Brook for hot showers and good home cooked meals. At the Brook, you can even swim the horses which is a great experience. Everyone must bring a sleeping bag, hard hat or hat, rain coat, riding boots, torch and sunscreen. WHEN , WHERE and HOW MUCH: Mountain Cattle Drives are operated from Guy Galeen, in the Hunter Valley. The 8 day cattle drive costs $449 per person and includes all meals, horses, gear and tuition, pick up and drop off in Scone, mattresses and pillows.
